I was recently asked to review the new Sudocrem Skin Care Cream (*). I was very kindly sent one of their little tubes and since then I have been hooked.
Everyone knows of Sudocrem. It is the magic white cream that is lathered on us as children whenever our skin did something unusual. But unfortuantly that also means you don’t think of Sudocrem without thinking nappy rash.
Sudocrem’s most famous product is their Antiseptic Healing Cream which treats nappy rash, eczema, sores, dry skin etc. There is always a pot of Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing cream in my mum’s medicine cabinet. Whenever I used to break out in eczema when stressing about exams etc, I lathered on the Sudocrem (and it does work miracles). But this was as far as I thought Sudocrem would be used on my skin.
Then I received their Skin Care Cream and after just one use it has been added to my beauty regime rather than just for emergency eczema cream. The cream uses the same key ingredients as the original cream but in different proportions – meaning it has been redesigned as a beauty product to be used as a face mask and spot reducer – rather than for babies bottoms.
At first I was slightly skeptical. I thought that Sudocrem is good for rashes but it isn’t going to be particularly nice as a face moisturiser- surely it will be too thick, it will make my skin really greasy and slimy, and block up all my pores?
The cream still looks like the original cream and it is still very thick, but I couldn’t have been more wrong about the outcome.
My first test was to use it as a face mask overnight. So I made sure I had a completely clean face and then applied the Sudocrem all over. Be warned – you will look like a ghost when you first put it on (I didn’t even put too much on, just a thin layer) but give it a few minutes and it will sink in.
I was really scared that when I woke up my skin would be so oily and gross and I would have to scrub away the excess cream. But the next morning my skin felt amazing! So fresh, plumped up, and as smooth as a babies bottom! I honestly felt like my skin was glowing with goodness.
I didn’t even wear any foundation the next day as I wanted to keep my skin feeling and looking as clean as it did when I woke up. Since then I have used it twice a week and every time waking up with beautifully soft skin. My sister borrowed it as is now addicted too.
My second test was to see how it dealt with dry skin. And no surprises there, it is still a miracle worker, just like the original. I have some hard and very sore skin on my elbow and so I have been applying the cream whenever I remembered too, and it is making the skin soft and healing beautifully. I then gave it the ultimate test and used it on my feet, to make them as smooth as can be. And again, I am pleased to say – I am beyond happy with the results! (If you do this, try it after a shower and before you go to bed – as walking around in slippery Sudocrem filled shoes all day would not be pleasant)
Another benefit of the cream – it reduces the redness of spots. I haven’t had any since using the cream so I can’t confirm this is true but that is good to know for any of you who are wondering!
I probably would not use the cream as a day moisturiser, just because I like to leave it to sink in over night. It is also not great as a hand cream etc as it is thick to apply. But it is great for dry patches and as a beauty product for skin in general.
PLUS the Sudocrem comes in the cutest little tube – perfect make-up/gym bag size. Not to mention the unbelievably low price point of just over £2! So you can slather it on and not worry about it costing as much as gold dust.
It is available at high street drug stores and pharmacies so I would definitely suggest trying it out – and let me know what you think!
I thought I would also talk about my favourite favourite hand cream. Clarins Creme Jeunesse des Mains. It is such a gorgeous Hand & Nail treatment cream and my-go-to moisturiser whenever my hands need some TLC.
I fell in love with it when I was younger as my mum used it all the time – so now the scent smells like her and I get hit with a massive wave of nostalgia every time I use it.
I TRY and use it every night before I go to sleep, but I very regularly completely forget. I sometimes rememeber when I get out the shower but the time I always use it is in between painting my nails.
Whenever I take off my old nail varnish, my nails always feel so dry from the remover and being covered under layers of varnish – so I wash my hands and then when they are dry, I lather them up with this moisturizer. I instantly feel better and just love the smell. My nails them feel healtier and stronger and ready for their next colour.
It is such a light mortising cream and doesn’t make your hands feel really slippery – it sinks straight in and makes your hand feel beautiful.
Let me know if you use either of these creams of if you have any other moisturisers I must try!
Lots of Love
