National Pub Quiz Day

Pub quizzes = a LOT of fun. Everyone loves a pub quiz. I am unbelievably competitive though which has lead to a few pub quiz grumbles but that never stops me from going back for more. It is a great way to get everyone together, do something fun, have a few drinks and trying really hard not to argue over the answer.

I am pretty much the Bridget Jones of pub quizzes. I sit pretending to think really hard about the political answers and historical dates when actually I am thinking what I should order to eat – and then I shine like a Lucky Star in the Pop Culture/Reality TV/Celebrity round. And yes, I usually shout out the wrong answer. But hey, it is the taking part that counts.

I haven’t been part of a pub quiz team since University and recently I have been really desperate to set up a little team of friends and head over to a local pub quiz for a night of challenges and many laughs. So I was really happy to find out that there is now a National Pub Quiz Day.

Yes, a National Pub Quiz Day. What a fantastic day. Almost as good as National Cocoa Day.

It is a new National day starting this year and it is coming up this Tuesday, December 1st.

So what is National Pub Quiz Day exactly?

Basically, the aim of the game is to find the nation’s brainiest Pub Quiz Team. Hundreds of people, in pubs all over England will compete in real time at the same pub quiz, hosted by Orderella, quiz specialists MyBigIQ and Digital Integrated Marketing Specialists, D-Media

At the end of the night the National Pub Quiz winning team and venue will be crowned. The general knowledge quiz will be played over 9 rounds with scores added and leader boards shared nationwide. There’ll be no checking Google though, the faster you answer the more points a team gets. Plus, just don’t cheat guys.. we know you aren’t ‘texting your mum’ and then can tell us how many episodes of Fawlty Towers were made..

As well as just being crazily fun, and I assume a very competitive evening for each team’s/individual’s pride, the quiz is actually for an amazing cause. The National Pub Quiz will be raising money for the charity Team Margot Foundation – a charity which raises money to support people affected by and aid research into bone marrow and stem cell transplants and blood disorders such as leukaemia. Team Margot Foundation campaigns for more potential bone marrow / stem cell donors to join the register, especially people with a mixed genealogy.

So all you have to do, is get yourself a team and head down to your local pub to take part. PLUS – how fun is this bit – By using your Orderella app, you will be able to order and pay for your food from your mobile device – saving the hassle of getting up half way though your favourite round of questions.

There is a full list of venues here: www.nationalpubquizday.com so make sure you have a look of where your nearest one is and get registered.

By entering yourself and your team and paying the £5 to your pub you are helping so many people whilst having the best time. The CEO of Orderella, Denis Collett said: “Everyone loves a pub quiz and we’re delighted to be hosting the first ever National Pub Quiz Day. By using the Orderella app people can get food and drink delivered directly to their table, so quiz competitors don’t have to worry about missing any questions. That’s the fun bit, the serious bit is making sure we raise awareness and money for a really worthwhile cause of all the great work Team Margot Foundation does. So start gathering your team and thinking up your best quiz team name and get ready to battle it out to become the brainiest quiz team in the UK!”

So if you want my advice, call Stephan Fry or Alexander Armstrong and ask them to join you.

HAVE A BLAST.

I would absolutely love to hear if you have any good Pub Team names?

xx
