Pinkie Promise

This coat. I love this coat.

I like clothes – I like shopping – I like buying new things to wear. But then sometimes, something will come along and I will just completely fall in love. I know when this happens because I will justify why I need it in my life, why I love it, why it must come home with me. This happened with this coat.
I remember standing in the Topshop changing rooms with my sister having this conversation:

“Look how nice this is – I need this”
“Jessica. You don’t need another coat.”
“I don’t need another coat, but I do need THIS coat. This is a special coat.”
“You have a trench coat”
“But this is a PINK trench coat. I don’t have a pink trench coat – It will go with everything. It is a pretty colour. It is summer soon – I need a summer coat. This is a perfect summer coat. Look at the flaps over the arms. It has a nice belt. It is very nice. Yes. I will buy this”.

Turns out it was Ā£85 and I decided I couldn’t afford it that day as I was just about to go skiing the following week and needed to save all the monies. However, I couldn’t stop thinking about it – it was clearly love and lust at first sight, I knew that I wanted to spend everyday with it forever- so a few weeks ago I headed back to Topshop and purchased it – shutting my eyes and looking away from the card machine when I paid. It was the happiest day of my life.

(SIDE NOTE but highly relevant to this topic of conversation: Whilst I sit here writing about falling in love with a coat – I have also fallen totally head over heels in love with a new pair of Nike Air Max 90. They are SO COOL and I can’t stop thinking about them. I almost wrote Nike Air Max 90s because that sounds right to me, because it is a pair of trainers – but I would get in trouble with someone if I wrote that – apparently you can’t just stick an ‘s’ onto things that don’t have an ‘s’ on them – people get mad. Really mad.
So anyway – these trainers – they are the Nike Air Max 90 String Metallic Gold Grain and they are sexy. Here – let me show you.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

I know right. Sexy.

I am so in love – I am writing about them here as a sort of outlet for my love because I can’t afford them right now/ not even in the near future. I went into Office the other day, stood by the wall of Air Max(s) and held this shoe, looking lovingly at it. I knew I shouldn’t try them on because the heartbreak would be too much. But the STUPIDLY helpful sales assistant came slightly too close to me and my primal instinct took over and I requested them in a size 5, please.

I knew that they wouldn’t have them in my size – because everyone is always sold out of size 5s in everything. But low and behold – she came back with a size 5. The last pair. It was fate. A true Cinderella story.

And just as I predicted – I was heartbroken when I had to tell the stupidly helpful shop assistant that I couldn’t afford them but to take good care of them until I come back and get them.)

Side note swept aside.

Back to the coat. So, we love the coat. It will probably feature in every single outfit post from now until September. And to kick things off, here is its first appearance on the blog – a nice little outfit post from my trip to the British seaside for Easter Weekend.

Apologies for the greyness of these photos. it was not the idyllic, sunny, ice cream on the beach, weather I had pictured. It was SO windy and SO cold and SO grey. (Just to be clear – I am not complaining, I am merely stating facts about the weather. No one tells the BBC weatherman the he is complaining all day – he is just saying it how it is.)

I have always loved the trench coat look – one of my life ambitions is to buy myself a Burberry Trench Coat. Ooh and a Burberry scarf. A nice, classic Burberry scarf – perhaps in the oversized print. None of that camouflage/heart pattern nonsense that people have nowadays.

The best thing about trench coats is that ‘oooh is she wearing clothes underneath it or is she just in her underwear’. Just like Rosie Huntington Whitley in that Agent Provocateur Valentines day campaign from a few years ago – I died. She is amazing.

(Watch here if you are curious to see RHW in her underwear – and a trench coat – try and focus on the trench coat)

As I went off on a rant of love about the Nikes – I totally disregarded these new babies. My Stanleys.  (I am totally aware that isn’t their actual name – but it is their name from me).
So the best thing about having small feet is that I can buy thse trainers from the junior section of Foot Locker – which makes them half price. Winning. A nice little tip for all your small feeters. However, the worst thing about having small feet and reasonably long legs= I have crap balance and could fall over at any minute.

So the moral of the story. Buy the clothes you love. Because it makes you happy. And life is short.

xx
