British Summer. It has officially arrived. Well, actually summer arrived in spring – and then winter returned to us the second it officially became summer (I mean seriously – how unfairly cold was it last week). But – now it is summer again. Excellent.
That is the JOY of living in England – you can never be prepared for the weather. You never truly know when you will need an umbrella, when you are going to get sunburnt or if you should be wearing a ski jacket or shorts in June. Such fun.
On Friday, for example, I was wrapped in about 80 layers – but yesterday I whipped out the denim cut-offs for the first time this year.
Normally, I do like to play it safe and therefore my staple outfit for June is jeans. (I did actually make the mistake of wearing these jeans in that freak heat wave a few weekends ago… I spent the day in Green Park and I got tan lines on my legs where the rips are… so I have tiger striped legs and brown knees. Super.).
But yes – jeans for June. They are perfect with a really light summer floaty top, or with a jumper or jacket if its slightly colder. AND it means you don’t have to have your legs out, so you don’t need to deal with the panic of ‘oh my god my legs are so pale they blend in with the pavement’ just yet.
If you follow me on Snapchat (which is cocoachelsea by the way #shamelessplug) you will see that allll I wear at the moment is jeans and my leather jackets. Literally every single day. I know, I know, change it up a bit Jessica. But they are just the perfect outfit combination for this weather… And I did just cut off all my hair so technically that counts as a outfit change.
My other favourite thing to wear with jeans is a jumper. Be it thick or thin, woolly or cotton. Sometimes, I don’t even bother wearing a top underneath/ never wear a top underneath.
(Is that too much information? I don’t know where the line is on here sometimes).
The negative to this, of course, is that if you get too hot you can’t de-layer. You just have to man up. Or just sweat a lot.
But this outfit of jeans & a jumper is one that I wear all the time. It is all basics. #basicbitch. Nothing complicated here. It is not ‘on trend’ or high maintenance. It is just super casual.
Obviously you need sunglasses in June – just in case there is a chance of blinding sunshine / you didn’t have time to do your make up that morning. And one must always have a bag… to carry all the make up that you didn’t have time to apply that morning – so you can apply it on the way to your meeting on the tube, or in a Starbucks toilet…
I absolutely love these heels. Mainly because I can actually walk in them. I always rant about how much I hate waking in heels – they literally break my feet. They definitely hurt me much more than a normal person. I honestly start hobbling after around 3 mins. #wimp. But these ones aren’t a mile high, so they are manageable. Plus they have a thick heel – so easier to balance in. I lasted a whole day in them at Ascot last year – AND I got the entire way home in them – I didn’t have to take them off and hobble around bare foot like the rest of the drunken Ascot crowd that make their way onto the Daily Mail – I lasted until I stepped through my own front door until I collapsed on the floor and lost all my dignity.
My sunglasses are from Quay Australia. They sell them in Topshop and I think on ASOS as well. I love them. They are too big and overly obnoxious – which is fabulous and perfect for bringing all the unnecessary sass to an average day. PLUS, I can wear these on top of my head without them getting trapped and tangled up in my hair when I take them off my head. #FirstWorldRayBanAviatorProblems
This bag doesn’t need an introduction. Or a description. Just admire it and love it forever and it is happy. It is chilled like that. Oh, ok, just one word about this bag… CHANEL.
